PUTTING BUILT ENVVIRONMENT CAREER OPTIONS ON THE STUDENTS' RADAR

Schools Industry Partnership, Adrian Rhodes

Students at All Hallows girl’s school in Brisbane were inspired to consider career pathways in the built environment sector during a careers exposure event held on April 20th, 2023.

Many thanks to the amazing WIDAC members (Women in Design & Construction) who volunteered their time to visit the school to speak about what they do in their current job, share their career journey and to  provide encouraging advice to the students. The volunteers were Emma Pearce – Estimating Coordinator – Fore Group, Jenna Cottis – Senior Interior Designer – Gray Puksand, Gina Taylor – Architect – Nettletontribe, Bridgette Court - Graduate Structural Engineer - EDGE Consulting Engineers, Jadyn Benzie – Traffic Engineer – TTM, Jenny Brandon – Project Manager – Generate Property Group, Sophie Litherland - Senior Associate – Willowtree Planning, Stacey Klein – Structural Engineer – Bligh Tanner and Althea Papinczak – Director – WIDAC and event facilitator.

Ninety percent of students said that the event revealed future job opportunities they had not previously known about or considered and greatly appreciated the opportunity to have one-to-one informal conversations with the volunteers. Thanks also to TTM, the event sponsor and to Ronel Botha, the school Careers Counsellor for promoting and hosting the event.
