Guidance – Number/Reading

A reading or numeracy volunteer works with pupils in primary schools to improve their basic reading and numeracy skills. It offers volunteers the chance to directly influence pupils’ learning at an early age, offering them individual support. There are many ways to get involved, with various time commitments. For example, it could involve reading support activities on a one-to-one basis for one hour per week or assistance with one-off activities for a group of students such as basic number based activities/games with children on an individual or group basis to help them improve and develop their core number basic numeracy skills and confidence. The level of your involvement can be negotiated between you and the school requesting your support.
